Hate Crime

Hate Crime can take many forms and is any incident motivated by the perpetrator’s bias against your:

  • Race
  • Colour
  • Religion
  • Disability
  • Sexuality
  • Gender
  • Ethnicity

There are seven steps to reporting Hate Crime:

  1. Always report a Hate Crime incident to the Police.
  2. Write down the time, name and the number of the officer dealing with the matter.
  3. If possible write down all that happened during the incident. Include the time/date, place and description of the perpetrator(s), or names and addresses if possible.
  4. If you or anyone is injured try to get photographs of visible injuries and seek medical assistance.
  5. If there is evidence(e.g. weapons, broken glass, clothes, leaflets, graffiti) do not touch these till the police arrive.
  6. If there are any witnesses ask them for their names and addresses. Ask them to write down everything they saw and heard, and sign their statement.
  7. If it helps, contact a family member, friend or neighbour for support and reassurance.
